It’s true that men are more likely to lose their hair than women, mostly due to male pattern baldness.
We lose an average of 100 hair a day.

But thinning hair and hair loss are also common in women, and no less demoralizing.
Any kind of physical trauma?surgery, a car accident, or a severe illness, even the flu?can cause temporary hair loss. This can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. Hair has a programmed life cycle: a growth phase, rest phase and shedding phase. “When you have a really stressful event, it can shock the hair cycle, (pushing) more hair into the shedding phase”.Hair loss often becomes noticeable three-to-six months after the trauma.

Don’t worry as that hair will start growing back as your body recovers.

1. Be Kind To Your Hair!

Regular hair washing is a part of preventing hair loss by the way of keeping hair and scalp clean. Doing so, you are lowering the risk of infections and dandruff that may lead to hair breakage or loss. Moreover, clean hair gives the impression of more volume.

When hair is wet, it is in its weakest state. So avoid brushing wet hair because the chances of hair loss increases. But if you must comb wet hair, use a very wide-toothed comb. Also avoid brushing hair too frequently as doing so can injure hair and increase loss. Use your fingers to undo tangles, not a comb or brush.

Set your hair dryer on cool and low settings, and minimize your use of flat irons.
Don’t dye your hair more than one or two shades its normal color: The more severe the color change, the more chemicals you require, which can make hair break.
If you use hair gel or hair spray, don’t wait for it to dry before you comb through it, because the hair will harden and be more likely to break.
When hair is wet, use a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush, and LIGHTLY comb through hair; avoiding any pulling and tugging.
Avoid unnecessary brushing, combing, curling or straightening. Excessive use of these tools and techniques will weaken the hair at the root level.

2. Trim Your Hair Regularly

Split ends can also cause hair fall (28). To avoid this, keep trimming your hair periodically.

3. Avoid Steamy Showers

Hot water dehydrates the hair strands, making them brittle and vulnerable to breakage. Rinsing your hair with hot water also flushes out the essential oils of the scalp, which can lead to increased shedding of hair. You can, instead, go for a shower with lukewarm or normal water.

4. Break Bad Habits

Smoking reduces circulation, and this includes blood flow to the scalp. Drinking alcohol and caffeine will hamper the immune system and cause further hair fallout. So a drinker then it is recommended to stop it as it causes damage to not only your hair but also to your overall health.

If you are experiencing hair loss than lessen your alcohol intake because drinking alcohol reduces hair growth. So decrease or eliminate alcohol to see an increase in hair growth.

Walk, swim or bike for 30 minutes a day helps balance hormonal levels, reducing stress levels besides reducing hair fall.

7. Essential Oil Scalp Massage

Scalp massages help stimulate the hair follicles to increase hair growth, and essential oils like lavender, rosemary, and thyme have been shown to prevent hair thinning and balding! Take any carrier oil (like olive, coconut, almond, etc.) and add a few drops of lavender, rosemary, or thyme oil to it. Massage the oils gently into your scalp. Put on a shower cap and leave it for an hour, then shampoo your hair. Follow this remedy once a week. It smells great and is very relaxing, and your hair will look healthier in no time!

8. Natural Juices

You can rub your scalp with garlic juice, onion juice or ginger juice. Leave it on overnight and wash it thoroughly in the morning. (I personally will stick with essential oils!)

9. Antioxidants

Green tea contains antioxidants which prevent hair loss and boost hair growth. Apply warm green tea (two bags brewed in one cup of water) on your scalp.

Rinse your hair thoroughly after an hour. To see results, practice this regularly for a week to ten days.
If you want to keep hair healthy, you must know how to take care of them. Avoid rubbing your hair dry with a towel. Rather, let hair dry naturally.

10. Consider Your Diet

Protein is the building block of the tissues in your body, including your hair. Make sure you are consuming enough proteins in your diet. The best sources of protein are lean meats,milk,soy,egg whites and fish.It helps curb hair loss.

You also want to eat foods high in omega-3 fatty acids—such as salmon and mackerel—two or three times a week, or sprinkle a tablespoon or two of freshly ground flaxseed onto salads or cereal each day.

Vitamin A is not only good for your body health but is also good for your hair.It encourages production of sebum in your scalp.Food products rich in vitamin A include leafy greens, carrots, and eggs.

Vitamin B12 supports the creation of red blood cells and Vitamin E encourages healthy circulation, which ultimately provides more oxygen for your body! And more oxygen = healthier hair.

Vitamin E betters blood circulation in the scalp to help hair follicles remain productive and vitamin B helps hair maintain its healthy colour.

Some of the most important minerals for hair health are — calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc. You can find lots of these in your favorite vegetables, or you may want to consider taking a daily mineral supplement.

11.Be Hydrated

Staying hydrated is crucial in tissue growth and health. The hair shaft itself is largely made up of water(one quarter). Set a goal to drink AT LEAST 64 ounces each day or four to eight cups of water in a day to stay hydrated. Also, avoid carbonated sodas all of which will weaken your immune system and make your hair more likely to fall out.

12.Change how you style your hair (for men with long hair)

If you are losing your hair lately, you must loosen up your hair. Hairstyles such as ponytails, braids and artificial hairstyles pull hair or tug hair follicles, and can eventually cause baldness.

Putting on a cap, hat or helmet could also be another reason in men.

13.Keep your head sweat free

Men with oily hair, experience dandruff during summer due to sweating and the chances of hair fall increases. Using shampoos that contains aloe vera and neem can keep the head cool and prevent from dandruff.
Also, men who wear helmet experience major hair loss in summer. As the sweat accumulates in the pores and weakens hair roots causing hair loss in men. So wearing a scarf/ bandanna over your hair or a terry cloth headband can prevent hair loss.

14.Aloe vera(Natural remedy)

Try aloe vera juice and neem paste. Many think that this treatment can control hair fall. While more scientific research needs to be done in order to prove that this is an effective treatment, aloe vera is thought to increase blood flow wherever it’s applied, and neem paste may have many hair benefits, including promoting growth, hydrating, and keeping the scalp healthy.
Mix aloe vera juice with neem powder and add two-three drops of coconut oil.
Apply it on your scalp and leave it for half an hour.
Wash it off with shampoo. Follow this treatment once in a week for the desired results.
